Carmo Specialty Coffee Roasters is a family owned company located in Melbourne, Florida. Owner José Santos has spent over twenty years growing one of the finest natural sun-dried coffees in the world named "Cafe do Cerrado."
After all these years working on coffee plantations in Brazil, José has worked and mastered every aspect of growing, harvesting, naturally sun-drying, and processing coffee beans. The need to open Carmo Specialty Coffee Roasters to import and roast the family coffee was a natural transition for José, who oversees every aspect of roasting and packaging of Carmo Specialty Coffee. He is fully committed to bringing you and your family the freshest, best tasting coffees from around the world.
The family owned and operated coffee plantation has been producing 100% Arabica coffee since 1973. A family that are pioneers on one of the early coffee plantations in the Cerrado Region. The plantation is located near the city of Carmo do Paranaiba on the plateau region of Minas Gerais in Brazil. At an altitude of 3600 feet, graced with well defined climatic seasons and an abundance of sunshine during the harvest season. This ensures the best conditions for the beans to absorb and maintain the fragrance and sweet flavor of the surrounding pulp. (The pulp remains on the bean during the natural sun-drying process).
The 370 acres of coffee plantation produces 5000 bags of green coffee per year Some of the different varieties include mundo novo, acaiá, yellow catuaí, red catuaí and caturra. Intensive coffee management practices consist of pest, disease and weed control, tree nutrition and health.
The four sons of Pedro Santos operate the coffee plantation with the help of four employees. Contract workers harvest the coffee by hand, promoting safe environment and sustainability.
